Services
JCFAIS provides financial planning and portfolio management services to its clients on a non-discretionary basis.
Financial Planning Services
JCFAIS creates customized financial plans that are based on each client’s financial objectives, time horizon, risk tolerance and income tax bracket. The financial plans are most often comprehensive, but may be segmented when appropriate. The comprehensive financial plans are duly attentive to current and projected assets, liabilities, income, expenses, investments, taxes, insurance and estate plans.
JCFAIS prefers to begin each client relationship by assisting with the completion of detailed budget and goal questionnaires so that we can determine foreseeable cash flow needs. Of course, we also review the following documents (as applicable): Wills, Trusts, Life Insurance Policies, Disability Insurance Policies, Long-term Care Insurance Policies, Annuity Contracts, Homeowners Insurance Policies, Auto Insurance Policies, Umbrella Insurance Policies, Federal and State Income Tax Returns, Employee Handbooks, and Social Security Statements.
Note: Currently, JCFAIS acts as a sub-adviser to a third-party adviser (Collins Advisory). James Curtis has been providing comprehensive financial planning and portfolio management services as an Investment Adviser Representative for Collins Advisory since January 1, 2009. As of December 31, 2016, Collins Advisory manages $46,863,754 in non-discretionary funds for 54 clients. Collins Advisory currently compensates JCFAIS for comprehensive financial planning and portfolio management services. This relationship is memorialized in a 5-year business succession plan which is scheduled for complete transition to JCFAIS by the end of 2018.
Portfolio Management Services
JCFAIS believes that each client’s portfolio should be purpose-driven, meaning that each investment component is chosen to provide for specific current or future needs. Accordingly, we offer ongoing portfolio management services based on each client’s financial objectives, time horizon, risk tolerance and income tax bracket. JCFAIS creates a customized Investment Policy Statement for each client, which outlines the client’s current situation regarding investment assets, annual income, income tax bracket, and risk tolerance. Portfolio management services encompass, but are not limited to, the following:
• Investment strategy • Personal investment policy
• Asset allocation • Asset selection
• Risk Analysis • Regular portfolio monitoring
JCFAIS prepares a detailed analysis incorporating long-term historical returns for equities and fixed-income investments along with long-term rates of inflation. Based on the results of the aforementioned analysis, we determine how much of the portfolio needs to be invested in equities for long-term growth and how much can remain in fixed-income investments for current and intermediate term cash flow requirements.
The equity positions in the portfolio are widely diversified between U.S. and non-U.S. stocks, real estate, commodities and natural resources. These positions are re-balanced annually and will be re-balanced more frequently if necessary. The fixed-income positions in the portfolio are often laddered to provide predetermined income amounts on specific dates.
JCFAIS seeks to provide that investment recommendations are always made in accordance with the fiduciary duties owed to its clients and without consideration of JCFAIS’ economic, investment or other financial interests.
